cpesc test CPESC   Erosion and Sediment Control Exam Review Course & ExamThe Insight team has routine training opportunities and is working diligently to keep our staff compliant with the 2009-0009-DWQ, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) general permit for developing and implementing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP).  In keeping with these efforts, Insight is hosting a review course and exam for eligible candidates interested in certification as a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC).

The CPESC Exam review is an intensive one-day (8 hour) course designed for consulting engineers, land and water resource specialists, landscape architects, environmental agency managers, code enforcement officers, and others who have an active interest in erosion control, will provide an overview of the CPESC examination topics, including federal and state rules and regulations, site planning and management, soil loss prediction, runoff control, soil stabilization, and sediment control.

Certification as a CPESC is based upon scholarly preparation, knowledge, and experience. Professionals listed on the registry will:

     (a) Meet the educational and practical experience standards
     (b) Subscribe to the code of ethics
     (c) Qualify for particular identification of special abilities, and
     (d) Pass a qualifying examination.

This course will be administered through JCG Environmental Consulting, Inc., a CPESC certified instructor, and will aid candidates in preparing for the exam.  To register for this class please visit the JCG Consulting website or contact by email.

Are you?July 1, 2011 is fast approaching and with each passing day the time to meet the training and certification requirements for the 2009-0009-DWQ, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) general permit slips away. The General Permit requires Qualified Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Developers (QSD) and practitioners (QSP) to obtain appropriate training or certifications, two years after adoption to ensure their level of knowledge and skills are adequate to design and evaluate projects that comply with General Permit requirements. Previously there were no required training or certification programs for contractors, preparers of soil erosion and sediment control SWPPPs, or field inspectors.
Effective July 1, a QSD and QSP must possess one of the following certifications and or registrations specified in the General Permit “and” must have attended a State Water Board-sponsored or approved Qualified SWPPP Developer training course.

Qualified SWPPP Developer Requirements:

1. A California registered Professional Civil Engineer;

2. A California registered Professional Geologist or Engineering Geologist;

3. A California registered Landscape Architect;

4. Registered Professional Hydrologist (American Institute of Hydrology)

5. Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC)TM registered through EnviroCert International, Inc.;

6. Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality (CPSWQ) TM registered through EnviroCert International, Inc.; or

7. A professional in erosion and sediment control registered through the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET);

Qualified SWPPP Practitioner Requirements:

1. Certified erosion, sediment and storm water inspector registered (EnviroCert International, Inc)

2. Certified inspector of sediment and erosion control registered (Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control, Inc)

Insight’s team has routinely implemented the new SWPPP requirements and assisted our clients’ permitting needs since their release in July 2010. The majority of our projects have included earthwork construction, groundwater remediation, and soil remediation.
